City & State’s must-read list of the most powerful people in New York City has been a long- standing institution in New York. City & State reached out to insiders and experts to compile the list, ranking each person based on their record of achievements, economic influence, philanthropic efforts, the constituencies they represent and, of course, sheer political power.

On August 21st, at The Dumbo Loft on 155 Water Street in Brooklyn, City & State debuted a special reception gathering top brass from government, advocacy, academia, media, businesses, and beyond from the borough of Brooklyn. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a power broker in his Central Brooklyn District, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, both gave keynote remarks highlighting all that Brooklyn as a Borough offers the world. They both commented on Brooklyn as a political powerhouse, and not just in New York. The U.S. Senate Democratic Leader, Charles Schumer, lives in Park Slope. Top prosecutors from Brooklyn – U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue, State Attorney General Letitia James and District Attorney Eric Gonzalez are also from Brooklyn.

Our very own Michael D. Nieves, President & CEO of HITN made the list and had the honor of introducing the Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. Mr. Nieves in his introduction highlighted the fact that “If Brooklyn was its own city, it would be the fourth largest City in America.”
