Covid has disrupted human activity worldwide in all its dimensions. One of the victims of this deadly virus was the XXIII Vieques Three Kings Festival, which has always been celebrated January 7 since its inception in 2000. With Covid wreaking havoc among our population, it was decided to postpone, not suspend, the XXIII Festival until conditions allow it.
Taking all due precautions, and judging that the conditions were right, the Three Kings arrived in Vieques last Saturday, April 23 without much fanfare. All the boys and girls who arrived in cars with their relatives or the few that arrived on foot received a non-bellicose toy, an educational book, the loving greeting of their Three Wise Men and the members of Columpio Colectivo who also came to entertain us.
Thanks to the volunteers who helped, especially Viequenses, the activity was a complete success. It did not go unnoticed that Mike Nieves, a Puerto Rican from the Diaspora, and Luis Alejandro Molina, a Mexican by birth and a Puerto Rican by adoption, traveled from New York with the sole purpose of participating and contributing to the success of the Festival. Work has already begun for the XXIV Festival, which we trust we will be able to celebrate on Friday, January 7, 2023. Everyone is invited!
