As part of its commitment to educate our Hispanic community, HITN worked closely with Maspeth High School (MHS) to create a specially designed classroom to practice and prepare for eSports.
The room, called Argo Esports Lounge, is equipped with new gaming devices, including headsets with microphones, game controllers, LED keyboards, gaming chairs, decorations, and even a couple of neon signs. All of these amenities foster learning and personal growth for the students, both academically and personally.
During the inauguration of the Argo Esports Lounge, Michael D. Nieves, President and CEO of HITN, stated, “Having a significant presence in public schools is part of our educational mission. We invest in our community because, in the future, the benefits will be tangible and multiplied. In this case, a cycle has been completed, as a Maspeth High School alumnus is now working in our company and has been able to contribute to the creation of this classroom.”
David C. Banks, Chancellor of New York City Department of Education, who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony emphasized the importance of providing students with a good education in the field of the booming digital gaming industry. State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. also attended the event and shared the excitement of the educational community.
“We have revived students’ interest in games and digital media to create a space within our educational environment. We are working hard to redefine the student experience for our young people,” explained school principal Selin Alicanoglu Satilmis.
The Argo Esports Lounge will be used for students participating in the Conduit program sponsored by HITN to train and prepare for inter-school competitions promoted by the municipal Department of Education. These competitions are designed to develop skills and enhance the individual growth of the participants.
