Students from the public school Academy For Young Writers (AFYW) paid a visit to HITN’s television studios.
During their time at the Brooklyn Navy Yard facilities, the youths delved into the technical and operational aspects of the broadcasting station.
This initiative was spearheaded by State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud and aimed to connect young creators with the field of collective information media. The AFYW school’s mission is to “build authentic relationships at all levels of our community so that students can develop their voice, identity, and critical consciousness, as they move toward independence, achieve academic excellence, and become agents of change in our community and in the world around us.”
This educational institution hosts two levels of education: middle and high school, thus catering to students aged 12 to 17, all of whom share an interest in writing.
With such initiatives, HITN seeks to link its educational endeavors with the new generations of New Yorkers and support Hispanic communities in their academic preparation.
